International numbers and lakh/crore numbers
The international system uses thousand, million, billion, and trillion. In the lakh/crore system, one lakh equals 100,000 and one crore equals 10,000,000. For example, 1,250,000 is one million two hundred fifty thousand internationally or twelve lakh fifty thousand in lakh/crore words. The expanded-number display uses three-digit comma groups in both modes so you can compare values easily.
How decimals and large numbers are handled
The converter shifts decimal digits according to the selected input unit. It uses whole-number arithmetic for the integer portion rather than rounding a large number through floating-point arithmetic. Decimal digits remaining after the shift are read one by one after “point”; trailing zeroes are preserved. Negative nonzero values begin with “minus.”
You can enter up to 18 decimal places. International words support up to 66 whole-number digits after the input unit is applied, ending with vigintillion groups. Lakh/crore words support up to 15 whole-number digits; very large crore counts use international words for the count. Scientific notation, fractions written with a slash, currency amounts in words, and ordinal forms such as “first” are outside this tool’s scope.
Frequently asked questions
Is 1.26 lakh the same as 1.26?
No. Lakh is a multiplier of 100,000. Therefore, 1.26 lakh is 126,000. Select Lakh as the input unit to apply that multiplier.
Can I spell an amount for a cheque?
This tool spells numbers without currency labels or a cheque-specific cents format. Confirm the wording required by your bank before using it on a cheque or formal document.
Does this converter add “and” inside whole numbers?
The output uses wording such as “one hundred twenty-five.” Some regional styles add “and.” The numeric value is the same.
Is my input uploaded?
The conversion runs in your browser. It does not send the entered value to a conversion server. The website’s usual analytics and privacy policy still apply.
